Holi 2022: All you need to know about this year’s Holi.

New Delhi:  Holi, festival of colours is being celebrated to mark the beginning of the spring season in the Indian subcontinent.

Every year, Holi is celebrated in the month of Phagun, the 12th month of the Hindu calendar. It is basically celebrated in the month of February or March.

Holi is celebrated to mark and celebrate the triumph of good over evil. But also, there are several other stories about its origin.

Holi is basically a two day celebration, with Holika Dahan and a day when people use colours to celebrate this day.

Why is Holi Celebrated?

According to one of the most popular legend in Hindu mythology, it is believed that ‘Holi’ marks Lord Vishnu’s triumph over King Hiranyakashyapu, who is known for killing all those who disobeyed him or worshipped other gods.

About Holi and Holika Dahan:

Also, King Hiranyakashyapu’s son Prahlad worshipped Lord Vishnu instead of him so he was so displeased that he conspired with his sister Holika to kill his son.

Soon after his order, kings sister, Holika agreed to kill her nephew, luring Prahlad into a pyre and trying to burn him. However, this conspiracy failed and Lord Vishnu came to rescue Prahlad and Holika ended up burning in the pyre.

To mark this day, Hindu’s celebrate Holika Dahan on the eve of Holi to mark the event by making bonfires.
