New Delhi: The first phase of polling for 58 constituencies spread across 11 districts of Uttar Pradesh were completed today. The 11 districts where the polling is held are Shamli, Meerut, Hapur, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Mathura.
Lot many politicians & activists encouarged citizens to cast votes for respective parties. But, what grabbed the attention of people was of a bridegroom in Muzaffarnagar hitting the polling booth in his wedding costume, before proceeding to his baarat.
Identified as Ankur Balyan, he said to the media, “Pehle matadaan, uske baad bahu, uske baad sab kaam (first voting, then anything else),” while standing outside the polling booth. He also added, “I also told my wife to be to cast her vote before the wedding.” He was dressed in suit and pagdi.

Many times, several brides, grooms, and newly married couples during the voting season have directly come to the polling booth to cast their votes. Many users commented that prospective brides and grooms do such stunts every election to gain publicity.
One of the users commented, “No Election is complete without the bride & bridegroom casting their vote in their wedding dress,” while another wrote, “Agar shaadi thi to sabah subah tayyar hokar kyon aa gaya. Ye sab tv par aane ke drama ka hota hai. He could have come in normal clothes, vote & then get ready & then married. What is intent of coming in dressed as “groom” instead of dressed as “normal clothes” to polling station.”

Since I’ve spent a huge chunk of my life growing up in the most diverse regions of UP, I can relate with this groom and the importance of India’s swing state: Uttar Pradesh, and it’s assembly elections. “Pehle matdaan, uske baad kaam” ??
