The United Nations World Tourism Organization agreed in 1997 to rotate the celebration to a new host country each.

Tourism and Green Investments

UNWTO lists investment as a top priority for the industry’s revival and further growth and development. For World Tourism Day 2023, the UNWTO emphasises the need to increase investments that benefit people, the environment, and economic growth. Now more than ever, we need creative, out-of-the-box ideas to support economic development and productivity.

UNWTO has declared that World Tourism Day 2023 will serve as a rallying cry for the global community, governments, multilateral financial institutions, development partners, and private sector investors to come together around a new tourism investment strategy.
