Ques: Recently, PM Modi concluded his trip to some key EU Countries. What could be the key takeaways from the visit?

SK Narvar: From a foreign policy perspective, PM Modi’s visit to key European nations was a great move. His trip achieved several things. After the latest visits from US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken and UK PM Boris Johnson to India, PM Modi’s trip to the EU has strengthened India’s global leadership position. It has brought the greater acceptance of India’s stance on the Ukraine-Russia war in the West. It has strengthened our International relations and has kept the conversation going on multiple fronts. Furthermore, it reaffirms Modi’s growing stature as a leader who can help restore peace in the continent.

Ques: Why is the Western world looking at Modi for global peace initiatives?

SK Narvar: There are various historical and current factors at play here. India is historically known to have led nonalignment against polarizing powers. It has a legacy of advocating peace and nonviolence. As the Government continues to maintain its position, our traditional bonding with Russia and growing proximity to the EU and US puts India and PM Modi in a strategic position to initiate peaceful initiatives. Unlike in the past, PM Modi is viewed as a decisive, firm yet fair leader globally.

PM Modi is a leader who has ensured that India’s geographical territory is secured and every undue act by enemy countries is rebuffed firmly. It has made the world look up to him for his courage and conviction to ensure peace and prosperity.

Ques: What has India gained with regard to trade from this trip?

SK Narvar: This visit takes India closer to signing a free trade agreement with the EU in the next couple of years. India has signed numerous pacts with Germany in sustainable development, renewable energy, technology, knowledge, and information sharing. We have signed the roadmap for bilateral exchanges with France, which pertains to technology and knowledge sharing on a host of domains. Furthermore, we have further strengthened our bilateral ties with Nordic countries and have invited them to invest in the blue economy.

Leading Indian business, PSU, and government departments signed various MOU and agreements; it will further bilateral trade and build an ecosystem of knowledge and scientific exchange.

Ques: What has been the reaction of the Indian Diaspora in the region with regards to the PM’s visit?

SK Narvar: A people’s person, PM Modi has always connected with the Indian diaspora worldwide. He did so again in his recent trip. The important highlighting factor here is that he continues to instill much patriotism and pride in the diaspora regarding their origins.
