New Delhi: 11 years have passed but the memories of Cricket World Cup victory at home still remains fresh in people’s memory. It was on this day – April 2, 2011 when Team India lifted the World Cup Trophy for the second time at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The first world cup win came in 1983 when Kapil Dev-led team decimated the rivals to script history.
In 2011, Team India under MS Dhoni’s command mounted a forceful campaign in the league stage and went on to win the grand finale in a thriller game. The partnership & big run chase by skipper Dhoni and top order batsman Gautam Gambhir got etched in memory that it is difficult to forget. They steered the Indian innings to victory despite a spirited Sri Lankan attack.
