It was on this day – April 2, 2011 when Team India lifted the World Cup Trophy for the second time at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The first world cup win came in 1983 when Kapil Dev-led team decimated the rivals to script history.

In 2011, Team India under MS Dhoni’s command mounted a forceful campaign in the league stage and went on to win the grand finale in a thriller game. The partnership & big run chase by skipper Dhoni and top order batsman Gautam Gambhir got etched in memory that it is difficult to forget. They steered the Indian innings to victory despite a spirited Sri Lankan attack.

As Team India lifted the trophy, frenzy & euphoria had caught the stands as well as streets across the country. Lakhs of cricket fans celebrated the phenomenal victory in Mumbai.

Reminiscing the memorable innings, many cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar are sharing the greetings, memories & anecdotes of the gigantic encounter.

A lot of cricket fans and enthusiasts are remembering the momentous day when the fiery Men in Blue vanquished the rivals and became world champions.

The final at Wankhede stadium became special also because of Team India’s valiant run chase despite initial setbacks. At one point, India was reeling at 32/2 in 6.1 overs. But, it was the partnership between Gambhir & Kohli and then Gambhir & Dhoni that brought India back in the game.

Gambhir steading the innings and Dhoni’s fiery innings kept fans glued to TV sets. At last, Dhoni hogged the limelight by hitting the winning six.
