The entire state of West Bengal was shaken by the gruesome murder and rape of a resident doctor. In response, the entire state became an epicentre of massive protest against the ruling Mamata government which has been alleged to be at the back of these incidents.

In one such protest march which was a candle vigil, Ganguly and his wife and daughters were seen standing in solidarity with the protestors. However, given the bad taste that Ganguly’s comments have been in the past, people believe that these solidarity moves are merely done as opportunistic moves.
Sourav faces massive online backlash
Earlier Ganguly had made extremely irresponsible comments on the entire issue. According to Ganguly, this incident is just a one-off incident i.e. it is an isolated incident and not a coordinated attack. In a society which is an amalgamation of white and black, such incidents are part and parcel of the same. Naturally, without proper and concrete evidence one cannot point fingers towards the authorities for the entire issue.

However, within a few days, Ganguly took a U-turn from his irresponsible comments and even changed his DP on social media to black to show solidarity with the protesting women. But Ganguly’s earlier comments did not sit well with the people. Naturally, in this case, when ‘dada’ wanted to make peace with the protesting people, the general mass saw it as a gimmick.
