New Delhi: West Indies’ star all-rounder Andre Russell is keen to play and win one or two T20I World Cups for the team. The cricketer has not played for West Indies since the T20 World Cup in November 2021, but he looks to make a comeback for the team.
The power-hitter is currently playing for Manchester Originals in The Hundred. Russell was asked about his position in international cricket by Daren Sammy before their game against Welsh Fire. The interview took place as Sky Sports’ build-up to the game.

Russell talked about being ‘thrown under the bus’ and said that he is going to be quiet. Actually, this tussle began when the West Indies coach Phil Simmons made the statement saying, “We can’t beg people to play for West Indies.” When Sammy asked if he still wanted to play for the West Indies, Russell showed interest in making a comeback for the Maroons. The cricketer said that he wished his two hundreds that came in franchise cricket would have been in international cricket for the West Indies.
“I always want to play and give back. But, at the end of the day, if we are not agreeing on certain terms, you terms is my terms (sic), and they have to respect my terms as well,” he added. He said that he is 34 and wants to win another World Cup or two for West Indies.
Russell will leave The Hundred next week to play in the CPL for Trinbago Knight Riders. Desmond Haynes, the West Indies selector said that this tournament will be a key for selection into the World Cup squad.
