Asia Cup 2023: India demolish Pakistan with record margin, netizens sparks meme fest

India registered their highest ever victory against Pakistan by a record margin of 228-runs.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team was on a roll against the arch-rivals Pakistan on Monday, as they outshined them in all departments to make a strong statement in their first Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023, by winning the game by a record total of 228 runs.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 10, but was postponed to the reserve day on Monday, September 11.

India was invited to bat first by the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam after the latter won the toss. India making amends for their batting horrors at Kandy came all guns blazing, with the openers Rohit Sharma (56) and Subhman Gill (58) giving India a scintillating start by adding 121 runs for the first wicket.

However, the match was interrupted by rain at the 24.1 over mark through the first innings. Despite all the efforts put in by the Colombo groundsmen, the match could not restart and finally, umpires called to postpone the match to the reserve day.

India resumed their innings at 147 for 2, with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli at the crease. Pakistan suffered an early blow when, before the resumption of the play, it was informed that Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf would not take the field due to oblique muscle inflammation.

Kohli and Rahul gave Pakistani bowlers no celebratory moments on the reserve day as both players scored 122* and 111* en route to their 233-run unbeaten partnership for the third wicket and putting a mammoth total of 356 for 2 at the end of 50 overs.

In reply, Pakistan never looked in the driving position as they were 3 down inside the 50-run mark. No Pakistani batsmen ever looked comfortable in the middle and finally were skittled down at 128.

Kuldeep Yadav was the star of the night for the Indian bowling unit, with impressive figures of 5 for 25. Shardul, Hardik and Bumrah took one wicket each.

Notably, Pakistan only played with 8 wickets as injured Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah did not take the field due to injury and were marked absent hurt.

As soon as India took the final Pakistani wicket, netizens went into a state of joy and sparked a meme fest on the social media platform X (Formerly known as Twitter).
