Cristiano Ronaldo signs Al Nassr: Know standings, manager, squad of this Saudi Arabian club

New Delhi: Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a two-year deal with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr after leaving Manchester United. He has reportedly received 200 million Euros for the deal as he shifts from Europe to the Middle East. The club made the official announcement on December 31 with Ronaldo’s picture holding a number 7 jersey in AL Nassr’s colours.

About Al Nassr

Al Nassr is a Riyadh-based club established in 1955. It is one of the most successful clubs in the Middle East as it has won the domestic league nine times, six King’s Cups, three Crown Prince’s Cups, two Saudi Super Cups, and three Federation Cups. Club’s other notable achievements include Asian Cup Winners’ Cup and the Asian Super Cup.

Last season, the club finished third in the league and was kicked out of the domestic cup competition and the AFC Champions League by Al Hilal. This season, the club sits at the second spot, just behind Al-Shabab.

Ownership and manager

Rudi Garcia

The club was founded by Zeid Bin Mutlag in 1955 and in 1960 when Al Nassr went professional, Abdul Rahman bin Saud Al Saud became the head of the club. It follows a presidential system and is administered by Saudi Arabian princes and Sheikhs. Currently, Masli Al-Muamr is the president of Al Nassr.

France’s Rudi Garcia, who once played for Les Bleus, is the manager of the club. Garcia has been in 11 games for Al Nassr and has won the team eight of those matches, lost one while two ended in draws.

Apart from Ronaldo, the team has some other notable names including Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo and former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina. The club also has Cameroon forward Vincent Aboubakar who joined in 2021.
