Dawid Malan draws curtain over a glorious England cricket career…

English star and the no. 1 T20I batter Dawid Malan has drawn curtains on his glorious England career at the age of 36.

New Delhi: English star and the no. 1 T20I batter Dawid Malan has drawn curtains on his glorious England career at 36. Malan last played for the national side at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Since then, the left-hand batsman has not played for the national side.

In his playing career, Malan has played 114 matches, including 22 Tests, 30 ODIs and 62 T20Is across formats. He scored 4416 runs in these 114 matches at an average of 37.74. These included 8 centuries and 31 fifties.

Speaking about his decision Dawid Malan expressed his gratefulness for the English national team as well as the English Cricket Board:

It has been an incredible journey since July 2017. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play for England in all three formats. Cricket, like most sports, is an industry where almost everyone eventually retires wishing they had done that little bit more. Whether you’ve played ten Tests or 100, many step away regretting not playing just one more, scoring a few more runs, or winning more trophies….

Malan further added that he is satisfied with his England career and it was not an easy journey ahead. Even after that, the left-hand batsman has battled every hardship and challenge to keep on track with a very successful career.

Dawid Malan’s incredible journey

Malan first grabbed headlines on the international stage in his T20I debut in 2017. Subsequently, in September 2020, Malan ascended to the top of the ICC Men’s Test Batting rankings and also became the fastest player to reach 1000 runs (in 24 innings) in Test cricket.

However, his greatest achievement has been perhaps his dominance in the white ball and that too in the shortest format of the game i.e. T20 cricket. Malan achieved  915 points in the ICC T20 which has been the highest by a batsman to date.

Moreover, Dawid was part of the World Cup Winning squad as well that won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022.
