Defeated Pakistan seek redemption against Canada to keep their WC hopes alive…

Pakistan will face in a do-or-die fixture against Canada at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium to keep their Super 8 hopes alive.

New Delhi: When things go your way, you do not think to tinker with the playing XI, style of play or attitude. However, when things go haywire there is a sense of uneasiness that works around the team. The same story is repeating with the Pakistan Cricket Team in this year’s T20 WC. A team poised to be one of the favourites of Group A has slumped to two straight defeats.

While it was a shocker at the super over against the United States, the performance against India lacked coordination between bat and ball. The match against India also spoke volumes about the captaincy of Babar Azam.

According to various experts and analysts, Pakistan’s bad performance has been accentuated in this year’s WC due to a visible factionalism in the team. On one hand, it is the trio of Babar, Rizwan and Shadab who are looking to pull the strings.

On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi has emerged with his resentment. Shaheen was the previous captain of the T20 side and was sacked under mysterious circumstances ahead of the World Cup. This compartmentalisation in the team is making it worse for head coach Gary Kirsten. So, the next thing what next for the men in green?

Can the Pakistan team qualify for the Super 8s?

For the men in green, the next big task is to qualify for the Super 8s amidst all these changing rubrics. But the question is, can they still do it? Well, to look at it Pakistan has to win big against Canada and Ireland.

However, that also doesn’t guarantee a safe passage for the men in green to the finals. Pakistan has the second-worst NRR at -0.150. To reach the Super 8s, they will need a bit of luck and praying as well! If the USA who have a NRR of +0.626 manage to lose both their last two matches, only then can Pakistan qualify for the Super 8s.

But, if the USA manages to walk out of both the games without much trouble, then it’s curtains down for Pakistan in this World Cup.
