New Delhi: South African batter Laura Wolvaardt has replaced Beth Mooney in the Gujarat Giants’ squad after she was ruled out of the Women’s Premier League due to injury. Sneh Rana, who led the team in the last two games has been drafted as the new captain of the team with Ashleigh Gardner as her deputy.
Sharing her feelings, Wolvaardt said that she is excited to join Gujarat Giants in the inaugural WPL. She added that it is an ‘incredible opportunity’ to play in the WPL, and is looking forward to meeting the team.

Australian opener Beth Mooney said that she was looking forward to playing in the WPL but injuries are part and parcel of the game. She added that she is ‘gutted’ to miss the season and will root for the team. Mooney also said that she will come back with more hunger next season.
Beth Mooney got injured while batting the first game and retired hurt when her team lost to Mumbai Indians by 143 runs.
Laura Wolvaardt was playing in the exhibition matches in Women’s PSL and scored a cracking fifty in her last game. She had a tremendous T20 World Cup, where she played three 50+ inning, including 61 runs in the finals. She scored a total of 230 runs in six innings to become the top scorer in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
After losing two games, Gujarat Giants won their first match against RCB after 65 off 28 from Sophia Dunkley and 67 off 45 by Harleen Deol led the team to a total of 201.
