‘Funny guy ain’t he…’: Mitchell Santner reminds Ben Stokes of last-ball six against him ahead of RR vs CSK match (VIDEO)

In a video shared by CSK on Twitter, Mitchell Santner can be seen teasing ex-RR player Ben Stokes, who is now in CSK’s camp

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings are ready to face Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur and the training session included some fun banters between the players. In a video shared by CSK on Twitter, Mitchell Santner can be seen teasing ex-RR player Ben Stokes, who is now in CSK’s camp. Santner reminded him of a defeat in Jaipur and pulled his leg.

In the video, Ben Stokes can be seen asking Santner if the stadium brings back some memories to which he replied, “Asks Stoksey.” Stokes was quick to catch that Santner was talking about the six off the last ball that led CSK to victory against RR and the English all-rounder also called his Kiwi counterpart ‘funny guy’.

The game to which Santner referred was played in 2019 where Stokes was defending 18 off the last over and with three runs needed off the last ball, Santner hit a six over long-on to win the game. In the game, RR scored 151 as Jos Buttler started well with 23 off 10 and Shreyas Gopal finished the inning with 19* off 7. Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar picked two wickets each while Santner ended with the figures of 25/1.

Chasing 151, CSK faced a top-order collapse and Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni scored half-centuries to set the stage. Ravindra Jadeja and Santner hit a six each in the last over to take home the victory.

In that game, interestingly, CSK’s batter Ajinkya Rahane was the skipper for RR. It was also the game where ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni got angry over a no-ball not called.

In IPL 2023, Ben Stokes has scored just 15 runs in the two games he played before getting injured while Mitchell Santner has played three games and picked three wickets. CSK will play RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur from 7:30 onwards.

The last game that the two teams played against each other in IPL 2023, was played in Chennai and RR beat CSK by 3 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal picked two wickets each while Sandeep Sharma restricted MS Dhoni and Jadeja’s power-hitting to win by a thin margin.
