Girl with impaired leg, wins Gujarat kickboxing championship

A 17-year-old, Dinkal Gorkha won Gujarat Kickboxing Championship recently held in Vadodara, Gujarat.

New Delhi: Some said ‘Quit Kickboxing’ while some said ‘Kickboxing is not for you’. But such critics and physical weakness did not let her down to perceive her dreams.

A 17-year-old, Dinkal Gorkha won Gujarat Kickboxing Championship recently held in Vadodara, Gujarat. “Dinku Boxer”, a name she is being called by her fans and well-wishers now, has to beat her opponent very confidently in the finals and dragged the trophy in to her name.

In an interview, she said, the moment was very precious to her when she received the tag. She has never thought she would be in the final round even after she started kickboxing five years back. According to her, this win has boosted her confidence magically.

“Many people including my well wishers had advised me not to get into kickboxing due to my partially damaged leg. I was slightly demotivated but by shedding off all my doubts I started preparing for the championship four months back,” Dinku Boxer said.

In 2009, Dinkal faced a bus accident when she was travelling with her mother Shobha. Her leg was seriously injured. Some part above her left ankle were crushed with very few muscles left for support. Shobha had to get both legs amputated and started bootlegging to earn a living.

Gorkha was then sponsored by the Baxi Education Trust for the education expenses to meet for her and her sister for three years, along with her kickboxing coaching fees. To start earning, the trust has also donated a food stall to her mother.

Dinkal Gorkha, after winning the state championship is now focusing to make a win in the National level Kickboxing championship.
