Race for the final four

Australia’s historical win has given them a boost in their bid for the semifinal berth, but it doesn’t affect the position of any of the top 4 teams as they all retained their position after match number 24.

The host India, with 5 wins in 5 games, is seated at the top with the only team to get to the double digits in the points table, i.e., 10 points. India is set to retain the top position till the end of the week and can only get down if they lose out to the English side on Sunday.

The side in the second position is the South African cricket team, who, despite having the same number of points as New Zealand, is sitting as the second-best team in the tournament due to their superior net run rate, thanks to their 149-run win over the Bangladesh team.

The Kiwis have slipped two positions in the last 5 days and are now seated at the number 3 spot. However, they are still far ahead of any team below them in the race for the semifinals.

Australia, who once seemed out of touch, have now started to show, why they are the most successful team in the history of cricket. They beat the Netherlands by a massive 309 runs on Wednesday, cementing their place at the fourth spot even strongly.

Pakistan and England in trouble

Australia’s win has created headaches in the English and Pakistani camps as they now not only need to win their matches but also need to win by huge margins if they are to make it all the way to the semifinals.

Afghanistan is one more team in the bottom half of the points table with a realistic chance of making it to the final four, but we are two matches too early to make that statement.
