New Delhi: An interesting encounter with Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s century, drop catches and a few injuries decided the course of the ODI series between India and Bangladesh. Injured Rohit Sharma played a cracker of an inning to score 51* off 28 while missing a six on the last ball as Bangladesh took away the game and the series from India. The match had so many ups and downs and finally, the game was decided in the last ball.

India came into the game with two changes, Axar Patel and Umran Malik came in for Shahbaz Ahmed and Kuldeep Sen. The drama began early on as Mohammad Siraj dismissed Anamul Haq in the second over. As the over came to an end, Rohit Sharma had to leave the field after dislocating his left thumb. He was followed by Deepak Chahar who could bowl only three overs due to a hamstring injury.

Wickets fell at regular intervals and Bangladesh was at 69/5 at one moment. It was Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah who laid a partnership of 147 runs to take their team to 271/7 after 50 overs. Though Washington Sundar picked three wickets and Siraj and Umran picked two each, they were outshone by Miraz’s 100* off 83 and Mahmudullah’s 77 (96).

Virat Kohli opened the inning with Shikhar Dhawan and one can question it as KL Rahul was there in the playing XI. India had a similar fate and was left at 65/4 when Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel decide to stand up for their team. Iyer continuing his brilliant run scored 82 while Axar managed a run-a-ball 56. It was Miraz who broke the partnership and turned the tables once again. Batting at number 9, Rohit Sharma showed some fireworks and with India needing 12 off 2, he could not hit the last ball for a six.

India will now be looking back at their injured players and batting collapses before they prepare for the last ODI of the series. While the fate of the ODI series has been decided there is also a Test match series left in the tour.
