IND vs ENG, First Test: India puts Bazball of their own on display after England’s collapse in the first innings

IND vs ENG, First Test: India is trailing by 127 runs in the first innings by the end of Day 1.

New Delhi: The first day of the first test match between the Indian cricket team and the English cricket team concluded with the hosts India having the upper hand as they were trailing by 127 runs against England’s first innings total with nine wickets still in hand.

While everyone was talking about England’s Bazball cricket, India put on the show of Bazball cricket of their own as they batted with a net run rate of 5.17 in their first innings, in comparison to the English team’s net run rate of 3.81 in their first innings.

When the day started, everyone was complaining about India making yet another spin-friendly bowling pitch where batting is tough.

However, first, the English skipper Ben Stokes himself and then the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal proved that if your shot selection is good, the pitch is as good as any other pitch to bat on.

Indian team, who gave themselves an upper hand by the end of day 1, will now be looking to continue the momentum on Day 2 and will try to put their opposition under pressure before the start of their second innings.

Day 1 Summary

At the beginning of the play, England’s captain won the toss and decided to bat first.

England got off to a flyer, as their openers, Zak Crawley (20) and Ben Duckett (35), stitched a fifty-run partnership for the first wicket.

India made a comeback with three quick wickets, but Joe Root (29) and Jhonny Bairstow (37) once again took the English innings back on track.

English captain, Ben Stokes (70), with Rehan Ahmed (13), Tom Hartley (23) and Mark Wood (11), added some important runs in the latter half of the innings, to the innings total to 246.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were once again India’s stars with the ball as they both picked up three wickets each, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each.

In reply, India played Bazball of their own, as they added 80 runs in just 73 balls before English spinner Jack Leach removed Rohit Sharma (24) to get their first and only wicket of the day.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal (76*) continued his attack and was still on the crease with Shubman Gill (14*) by the end of the day, as India was 119 for 1.

India is still trailing by 127 runs in the first innings, which the way Indian batters are batting can be covered by the end of the first session of Day 2 itself.
