Ind Vs Eng: Ollie Pope to field on short-leg wearing camera on helmet, history created

This little innovation is meant to uplift the viewing experience for the audience watching the game on their screens.

New Delhi: For the first time in the history of Test cricket, a player will be wearing a helmet with a camera attached to it. According to a report by Evening Standard, English cricketer Ollie Pope will be wearing a camera on his helmet while fielding on short-leg in the final test match against India.

A camera on a helmet has been seen before in various T20 leagues where not only players, but the umpires have also worn cameras on their heads. But, it is for the first time that a player will wear a camera on the field in Test cricket. This little innovation is meant to uplift the viewing experience for the audience watching the game on their screens. The camera might also be used for the Decision Review System (DRS) in the game.

According to reports, the camera will not record sound, so the conversations happening on the field won’t be heard. It will be a ‘unique view of the action in the middle’ as Sky Sports said.

The series stands 2-1 in favour of India ahead of the fifth and the final test match. The Indian team has been in news for past few days as India’s captain Rohit Sharma caught COVID-19 during the practice game and there have been speculations for who will be leading India in the Edgbaston test. Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin were being considered for leading the Indian side but now the name of Jasprit Bumrah is emerging for the role. However, coach Rahul Dravid said in a press conference that Rohit is yet not been ruled out of the game, there are still chances that he will test negative and lead India on July 1.

On the other hand England has announced their playing XI led by Ben Stokes.

England’s playing XI:

Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Sam Billings, Matthew Potts, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach, James Anderson
