India thrash Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in 1st ODI, lead series 1-0; Gill & Dhawan steal the show

Chasing a target of 190 runs, the opening pair of Gill and Dhawan hit boundaries & sixes as they easily overwhelmed the hosts and clinched India’s victory in the first ODI match.

New Delhi: India on Thursday thrashed Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the first One Day International (ODI) match of the three-match series in Harare. The victory came on back of powerful performances by Indian openers Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan, who made an unbeaten opening partnership of 163 runs.

Chasing a target of 190 runs, the opening pair of Gill and Dhawan hit boundaries & sixes as they easily overwhelmed the hosts and clinched India’s victory in the first ODI match. Their unbeaten partnership helped India score the target of 190 runs in just 30 overs.

Earlier, Indian bowlers Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar scalped 3 wickets each as India bowled out Zimbabwe for 189 runs in 40.3 overs.

Prasidh Krishna also picked up 3 wickets but proved to be expensive. Zimbabwe’s captain Regis Chakabva top-scored for the team with a knock of 35 runs while Richard Ngarava & Brad Evans scored 34 and 33, respectively.
