
New Delhi: In a major setback for India’s medal hopes, women’s table tennis has crashed out of the Women’s table tennis team event after losing out to the 5th-seeded German team.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Team lost easily against the Chinese team. Earlier, both Manika and Sreeja became the first female paddler to qualify for the Round of 16 in the individual event at the Olympics. Although the results have not been in favour of the Indian paddlers, Indian table tennis has progressed by leaps and bounds.
Meanwhile, the medal hopes of India will continue as Avinash Sable looks to clinch the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase which is scheduled to take place tonight.

Match 1 (Germany)
Germany started in the tie in style as they won the first game of women’s doubles (Sreeja Akula and Archana Girish Kamath vs Yuan Wan and Xiaona Shan) 3-1. The final scoreline was 5-11, 11-8, 10-12, 6-11.
Match 2 (Germany)
In the second game, Germany again managed to win the game comfortably as Annett Kaufmann defeated Manika Batra 3-1. Batra went down 11-8, 5-11, 7-11, 5-11.
Match 3 (India)
However, India came back strongly in their third match as Archana Kamath won her game against Xiaona Shan. The final scoreline was 19-17, 1-11, 11-5, 11-9.
Match 4 (Germany)
Germany however had the last laugh in the tie as Annett Kaufmann defeated Sreeja Akula 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-7) in the final game.
