IPL 2023 MI vs SRH: Cameron Green’s ton, fifty from Rohit take MI a step closer to playoffs

Cameron Green scored a century off 47 deliveries and finished the chase with Suryakumar Yadav as MI stays alive in the race to the playoffs.

New Delhi: The 128-run stand between skipper Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green led Mumbai Indians to a victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad as they chased down 200 in their final league-stage game. Cameron Green scored a century off 47 deliveries and finished the chase with Suryakumar Yadav as MI stays alive in the race to the playoffs.

Everything fell at the right place for MI at the right time as first Akash Madhwal’s four-wicket haul restricted SRH to 15-20 less than what they would have aimed for and then Green and Rohit did the job with the bat. After Ishan Kishan fell for 14(12) to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rohit Sharma scored a cracking fifty giving answers to his critics by rising to the ocassion.

Shamra scored 56 off 37, hitting eight fours one six while Green scored 100* off 47, hitting eight fours and sixes each. Green justified his price tag in a crucial game. Suryakumar Yadav continued his form and scored 25* off 16 aiding Green in the finish.

Mayank Dagar picked Rohit’s wicket as Nitish Kumar Reddy took a diving blinder, but all the efforts by Bhuvi and Dagar went in vain as the rest of the bowling attack leaked runs.

In the first inning, the opening pair of Vivrant Sharma and Mayank Agarwal had a 140-run partnership as they both had points to prove. Vivrant scored 69 off 47 while Mayank went on to score 83 off 46. Apart from dismissing the openers, Madhwal picked the dangermen Henrich Klaasen and Harry Brook in the 19th over to restrict SRH on a good batting surface.

SRH’s lower order could not contribute much as they finish last on the points table with jsut eight points.

While MI has made a case for themselves, they will have to keep on the game between RCB and GT as RCB has a chance to qualify with a better run rate. The good news for MI fans is that the evening game has been delayed due to heavy rain and wet outfield.
