IPL 2024 auction: Starc & Cummins earn over Rs 20 crore, almost double than their yearly contract with CA

The frenzy for this Australian duo in the league has always remained high amongst the franchises and their recent historic bids in IPL 2024’s auction are a testament to the same

New Delhi: In the recently concluded auctions for the IPL 2024, Australia’s two leading pacemen Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins scripted history by becoming the two most costliest players in the history of the Indian Premier League.

While the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad at a whopping price of Rs 20.50 crore, his teammate Mitchell’s Starc soon zoomed past that figure and became the all-time highest bid of the tournament as he was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders at a remarkable price of Rs 24.75 crore, following an intense bidding war with 3 other IPL franchises.

What makes the historic bids of Starc & Cummins in the IPL 2024 auction even more interesting is that the price at which these pacers have been roped in by their respective franchises KKR & SRH even goes past the amount they receive through their central contract with the Australian Cricket Board.

While Starc gets approximately Rs 12.50 crore for representing the baggy green side in all three formats of the game, Skipper Pat Cummins receives around 16.6 crore yearly for doing the same.

Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in IPL

Interestingly, Pacer Mitchell Starc has only featured in two seasons of the Indian Premier League. The last time he participated in the league was way back in 2015 when he took 20 wickets while playing for Royal Challengers Banglore.

On the other hand, the World Cup-winning Aussie skipper Pat Cummins has been constantly playing in IPL for the last few years.

After making his debut in the Indian Premier League with Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight riders, Pat Cummins has so far played 42 IPL in his bowling record has remained ordinary. The Aussie captain has not only conceded runs with an expensive economic rate of 8.54 but also managed to take just 45 wickets in his IPL career.

However, irrespective of this, the frenzy for this Australian duo in the league has always remained high amongst the franchises and their recent historic bids in IPL 2024’s auction are a testament to the same.
