IPL 2024: The coronation of ‘Prince Shubman,’ Gujrat Titans’ new captain

The 2022 IPL winners, elected Shubman Gill as their captain after the departure of their skipper Hardik Pandya to MI.

New Delhi: In a major film-like plot twist, the five-time champions Mumbai Indians acquired the services of their long-lost son Hardik Pandya, from Gujrat Titans for the IPL 2024 season.

The news of the trade took everyone by surprise as Gujrat Titans, initially named Hardik Pandya in their list of retained players, but was later traded to Mumbai, on the same day.

However, the official announcement was made by the IPL management through their X (Formerly known as Twitter), on Monday morning.

The trade of Hardik Pandya left the 2022 champions, without a captain, and soon enough through their X (Formerly known as Twitter), Gujrat Titans announced their star Indian batsman, Shubman Gill as their new captain for the upcoming season.

The notable name in contention was New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson, but the Gujrat Titans’ management decided to go with an Indian option as their captain.

The newly appointed Gujrat Titans captain, who is currently on rest after a hectic two months with the national team, responded to the added responsibilities, through his X (Formerly known as Twitter), by sharing a picture of him with the caption, “I am proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and I cannot thank the franchise enough for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. Let’s make it memorable! To all the fans… #AavaDe!”

The star Indian opener has some impressive stats while playing for the 2022 IPL Champions, as he notched up 1373 runs while representing them in 33 matches, with the help of 3 centuries and 8 half-centuries.

Overall, Shubman has scored 2790 runs in 91 matches in IPL, with an impressive average of 37.70 in it.

Shubman’s 129 runs innings against Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2023, is the highest score by any batsman in an IPL playoff match.
