New Delhi: Last night IPL face-off between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) turned out to be a thriller, with batter Rahul Tewatia displaying his steel of nerves and pulling victory from the jaws of defeat.
Tewatia finished the match against rival Punjab Kings in style and recorded his team’s 3rd victory in three successive games in the IPL 2022. His finishing style recalled memories of how MS Dhoni wrapped the matches with a six at the end.
Tewatia hitting 2 consecutive sixes on last 2 balls of the match turned the game in Gujarat’s favour. This is only the fourth instance in IPL T20 history when a team scored 12 runs off the last 2 balls to win the match.
Last time, an Indian achieved a similar feat was former skipper Dhoni who pummelled erstwhile Rising Pune Supergiants in the final overs and hit 2 sixes.
Needing 12 runs from 2 balls, Tewatia hit 2 towering shots over the mid-wicket fence off the bowling and ensured that Gujarat maintains its unbeaten streak since debut this season.
His amazing knock at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai is sure to give him a special place in the list of ‘best finishers’.
Pandya too overwhelmed to react
Tewatia’s powerful knock left the fans stunned as Gujarat fans were losing hope. Many were seen rooting for him and clamouring for more. Even Hardik Pandya, sitting in the stands was overwhelmed with the knock.
