Jasprit Bumrah fit to play, included in ODI squad against Sri Lanka

He had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is now been certified fit to play.

New Delhi: India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah returns after an injury and has been added to the ODI squad for the three-match home series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah has missed the games since September 2022 due to a stress reaction in his back. He had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is now been certified fit to play.

Bumrah was seemingly fit in December, but the selectors did not want to risk his fitness. The pacer last played the T20I series against Australia and while finding his rhythm, he managed to pick only one wicket in two games. Following the stress in the back, he had to miss the T20 World Cup, where India lost in the semis against England.

Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion is good news for the Indian team as they have to play the 2023 World Cup at home and he might be a key player in India’s qualification for the WTC finals.

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s team is ready to start their campaign for 2023 with the T20I series against Sri Lanka under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. The squad members were spotted at the photo shoot for the series. BCCI shared a sweet clip from the shoot, where the young squad can be seen sharing smiles and posing for the camera.

India will play 3 T20Is starting on January 3, followed by the ODI series from January 10 to 15.

Updated squad for ODIs: Rohit Sharma (C), Hardik Pandya (VC), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik.
