‘Luckily ball fell into my slot…’: Abdul Samad after finishing nerve-wracking chase for SRH (VIDEO)

Finishing the mammoth chase with a six after no ball was a dream game for Samad while Sandeep Sharma was left shattered after all his efforts.

New Delhi: Sometimes life does give second chances and one should grab it like Abdul Samad did against Rajasthan Royals. Finishing the mammoth chase with a six after no ball was a dream game for Samad while Sandeep Sharma was left shattered after all his efforts. SRH’s pacer Umran Malik interviewed Abdul Samad after the game who talked about the drama in the final over.

Umran asked him about his mindset when SRH needed 17 in the last over. Samad said that he was trying to hold his shape and waiting for the ball to fall into the slot. About the last ball, he said that he was looking to run for two and then he realised that the umpire has given it a no-ball. He added that ‘luckily’ the ball was bowled into his slot and he could hit it for a six.

Samad acknowledged that he missed a couple of chances to finish the game for his team previously but he tried his best every time.

Talking about celebrations, Samad said that he will run into his room as Umran and others are ‘crazy’ when it comes to celebrating, to which the pacer sarcastically said that he will just apply a cake on his face. However, at the beginning of the clip, Malik revealed his plans that he has ordered 8-9 cakes to smash at Samad in the dressing room.

Before the last over, Samad got to face just a single delivery as Glenn Phillips was busy smashing the ball out of the park. In the last over, he hit a six to Sandeep and after a few singles and doubles, the equation came down to five needed off the last ball. As he hit Sandeep’s yorker into the hands of the fielder, there was the siren and the umpire signaled a no-ball. He shuffled across and hit a flat six to chase 215, in which he contributed 17* off 7.

While Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi scored 55 and 47 respectively at a 160-odd strike rate, it was Henrich Klaasen’s 26 off 12 and Phillips’ 25 off 7 that gave a boost to the SRH camp. Phillips smashed Kuldip Yadav for three sixes and a four before getting out to him. Yuzvendra Chahal picked 4 for 29 making him the joint-highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL.

In the first inning, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave an explosive start with 35 off 18 while it was Jos Buttler who played a big knock of 95 off 59. Sanju Samson contributed 66* off 38 to give a 200+ finish to RR.
