New Delhi: Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has been in the limelight since he faked an injury, during a crucial game against Bangladesh. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh reacted to Naib’s theatrical collapse on the field.

Afghanistan faced Bangladesh, in their last Super 8 match. It was a crucial game for both the teams and Australia, as the result would decide the 2nd team to qualify for the Semi-final from Group 1. Afghanistan had the last laugh as they defeated Bangladesh, reserving a birth for themselves in the semi-finals.

The historic win over Bangladesh by 8 runs, led the Afghans to their first-ever semi-final game in an ICC event.

However, the Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib’s allegedly fake injury has sparked controversy, splitting the internet. During the last over, the game was threatened by rain. Since Afghanistan was ahead in the DLS method Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott was seen gesturing Rashid Khan to slow the pace of the match.

Coincidently, Gulbadin who was positioned at the first slip fell onto the ground claiming cramps just at that moment. Which delayed the game enough for rain to take over. Eventually, Afghanistan won the game and eliminated Australia from the T20 World Cup 2024.

The whole Afghanistan team celebrated as they penned history on that day. Despite the injury Gulbadin Naib was seen cheering, running, and celebrating with other teammates, igniting debates on his doubtful injury.

Mitchell Marsh’s reaction

Even players like Adam Zampa were angry with the event, slamming Naib’s shady hamstring injury and his sportsmanship. But the Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh rather found the incident funny.

“I was almost in tears laughing and at the end of the day, it had no bearing on the game,” Marsh to cricket dot com. “So we can laugh about it now – but gee, it was funny. It was outstanding.”
