‘Need to stick to…’: Yuvraj Singh unhappy with Mandeep Singh, Rinku Singh after KKR loses to DC

While batters on both sides were criticised for not scoring runs quickly, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was unhappy with Mandeep Singh and Rinku Singh’s batting approach in the game.

New Delhi: Delhi Capitals registered their first victory in IPL 2023 in a low-scoring encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders. While batters on both sides were criticised for not scoring runs quickly, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was unhappy with Mandeep Singh and Rinku Singh’s batting approach in the game. The all-rounder advised building a partnership in tough situations.

KKR could manage just 127 runs in the first inning after a middle-order collapse. Taking to Twitter, Yuvraj wrote that he was not happy with Mandeep and Rinku’s approach to the situation. He wrote that no matter how high is the batter’s confidence, one has to ‘cut out the risk’ and build a partnership when wickets are falling. Yuvraj added that they should have stuck to a one-day mindset till the 15th over as they had Andre Russell coming down the order.

In the game, Mandeep Singh, playing his first game this season, contributed just 12(11) while KKR’s uncrowned finishing hero, Rinku Singh managed just 6(8). They were the fourth and the fifth wickets respectively for DC and after Axar Patel got them, KKR stood at 64/5.

Jason Roy came in to open for KKR and scored a crucial 43 off 39. After the collapse, Andre Russell scored 38 off 31, hitting one four and four sixes to take the total to 127. Ishant Sharma made a comeback to T20 cricket and picked 2 for 19 while Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav also picked two scalps each and Mukesh Kumar had one.

David Warner stood to the occasion and scored 57 off 41. After his wicket, DC also witnessed a collapse and it was Axar Patel, who finished the chase with his 19*(22). KKR spinners put up a tough fight as Varun Chakravarthy, Anukul Roy and skipper Nitish Rana picked two wickets each.
