New Delhi: Former Indian Cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently made headlines for his controversial remarks about Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty during last night’s historical encounter between India and Australia in the final of ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
It all happened when Bhajji, who was speaking from the commentary box, commented about KL Rahul’s Athiya and Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka and made some objectionable sexist remarks about both actresses. His statement is now making netizens furious who are now taking to their social media to slam the cricketer for the same.
What did Harbhajan Singh say?
Harbhajan Singh, made a rather ‘misogynistic’ remark where he questioned the actresses’ understanding of cricket.

During the middle overs of the Indian innings, when Virat and Rahul were trying to compliment each other and build a partnership, the cameramen turned his focus towards Anushka and Athiya who were seen chatting while sitting next to each other in the stands of the stadium.
Seeing them together, Harbhajan Joked and wondered if the actresses even understood anything about the game. He didn’t stop there and even said that he was curious to know if Anushka and Athiya were talking about cricket or films.
Netizens Slams Harbhajan Singh
The ex-cricketer’s sexist comments about the Bollywood actress’ on live TV went viral within no time and sparked outrage against him on major social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter (Now X).
While some bashed the World Cup winner for cracking up absurd jokes at a time when India was struggling in the game, others criticized him for his narrow-minded thinking about female artists.

However, some people also jumped in support of the cricketer and the same divided the internet on the criss-crossing between sports and the entertainment industry.
Heartbroken Virat found peace in Anushka’s arms
Meanwhile, Anushka and Virat continued to showcase their adorable chemistry during the Final Battle for the coveted Trophy between India and Australia in Narendra Modi Stadium.
Soon after the cricketer smashed a crucial half-century in the over, Virat’s wife as well as his biggest cheerleader Anushka erupted with Joy and gave him a standing ovation.
She also stood with Virat in the gloomy times after Australia denied India their 3rd ICC ODI World Cup title and gave her husband a warm hug that made the internet go gaga about the couple’s unmatched chemistry. A Picture of the duo’s hug is now doing rounds on the internet.

Virat, who was almost in tears after India suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of a man in blue, found peace and a bit of relief when Anushka took him in her arms and gave him an emotional and comforting hug.
This moment of solace shared between the couple stole the spotlight and became a testament to their unbreakable bond in both the times of Joy and Sorrow.
