New Delhi: BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah has reportedly been elected unopposed to the chair of ICC. Shah will assume his position on 1 December, 2o24. Earlier, it was announced that former ICC Chair Greg Barclay had pulled himself out from the race for the chairmanship of ICC.

It meant that Shah remained the sole nominee for the post of ICC Chairman. Jay Shah pledged his commitment to expanding the rubrics of cricket in the global sector. Shah’s relentless efforts have made cricket a global sport in recent years. A result of Shah’s relentless efforts was the inclusion of cricket in the upcoming Olympics- LA 2028.

Shah in his opening speech as the ICC Chairman pledged that the forum will try to make the sport global and take the game to different corners of the globe.

Interestingly, Shah is also chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). However, Shah will have to relinquish his position before taking on the post of ICC Chairman. Jay Shah is the youngest ICC Chairman ever to ascend to that post and is the third Indian to become ICC Chairman.

Insider reports suggest that Rohan Jaitley, son of the late Arun Jaitley and the current President of the DDCA has been named as the successor of Jay. However, these outlandish rumours have been rubbished so far by the DDCA Chief.
