New Delhi: After avoiding a series whitewash (of 3-0) against England, the Sri Lankan team is all set to host the New Zealand cricket team for a 2-match test series. On the other hand, the Kiwis are returning to the island country after a long hiatus of 5 years for a bilateral series. The Test series is part of the World Test Championship calendar which is set to conclude at the Lords Cricket Ground in 2025.
The Kiwis are going through a rough patch in their cricketing history. After being eliminated from the early stages of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the Kiwis had a bad outing in the single test match against Afghanistan. The series was called off due to incessant rains which made the playing conditions difficult at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Noida.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is coming fresh from a 2-1 series defeat against England in their home. Earlier, Sri Lanka had hosted India for a 3-match T20I and ODI series. The Lankans lost the T20I series 3-0 but made a strong comeback in the ODI series to win the series 2-0.
