New Delhi: On the same day in 1999 Anil Kumble took the crown of becoming the second bowler to take all ten wickets with a spectacular performance against Pakistan.

He attained the wickets in Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, which is now know to be Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi against Pakistan during the second test of the two match series. India was trailing the series with 0-1 after losing the Chennai test. However, India dominated Pakistan’s cricket team in the Delhi test by the efforts of Anil Kumble and craved his name in the history books by taking all ten wickets in the second inning. The first player to take all the ten wickets in single test match was England’s Jim Laker.

India had set a target of 420 runs against Pakistan in the match and the spectators got off as soon as the first wicket of Pakistan’s team opener Shahid Afridi and Saeed Anwar fell on 101 runs.

Afterward, Kumble demolished Pakistan’s team batting lineup. The first wicket was of right-handed batsman Shahid Afridi (41) in 25th over. In no time Pakistan’s was reduced to 128/6. Kumble wreaked havoc and got is 10th wicket on 61st over by dismissing Wasim Akram.

Kumles’s special efforts took home the victory by 212 runs and became the second bowler to take 10 wickets in a single test inning. He even has the 3rd highest number of wickets taken in test.

A legend of the game, Kumble had announced his retirement from international cricket in 2008. He finished with 619 wickets in the longest format of the game. He has the third-highest number of wickets (619) in Tests, only behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia’s Shane Warne (708).
