Paris Olympics 2024: PR Sreejesh set to bid a happy “goodbye” to Indian hockey

After 18 years of service to the Indian national hockey team, PR Sreejesh has announced his retirement after the Paris Olympics 2024.

New Delhi: India’s no. 1 hockey goalkeeper, PR Sreejesh is all set to bid adieu to Indian hockey post the Paris Olympics 2024. A career that spanned 18 years, Sreejesh has seen many ups and downs with the Indian national hockey team. The most memorable memory will be the triumph in Tokyo which saw the side win a bronze medal in the Olympics. Subsequently, the Indian team showed impressive performance in the Asian Games in Hangzhou to storm into the Paris Olympics.

Here’s what Hockey India had to say about the illustrious career of Sreejesh-

Under the guidance of Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian team looks to win one more medal in Paris and hopes that its gold. Speaking about the ambitious project, Singh said “We want to ‘Win it for Sreejesh’ and we are all the more encouraged to stand on the podium once again.”


Interestingly, Sreejesh is the second Indian sportsperson from India to win the World Games Athlete of the Year in 2021 besides veteran hockey player Rani Rampal. Moreover, he was also felicitated with consecutive FIH Goalkeeper of the Year awards in 2021 and 2022. As Sreejesh plans to ‘settle down with family’ and give time to his personal life, the entire country will hope for a golden gift for the “Wall of Indian Hockey” as a mark of respect for his years of sweat and hard work.
