PCA renames stands at Mohali stadium after cricket stars Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh

The PCA has named the famous Terrace Block after former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh while the North Pavilion of the stadium is named after Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

New Delhi: The cricket action is set to return to the IS Bindra PCA International Stadium at Mohali with the T20I game between India and Australia. Meanwhile, the Punjab Cricket Association made an announcement to name the two stands after Indian cricket stars and 2011 ICC World Cup winners Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh. This is good news for their fans and Punjab’s audience.

The PCA has named the famous Terrace Block after former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh while the North Pavilion of the stadium is named after Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. “The PCA executive committee, under president Gulzar Inder Chahal, has decided to name the Terrace Block and North Pavillion stands after legendary Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh, respectively,”  PCA secretary Dilsher Khanna told The Indian Express. He added that the fans as well as players will be inspired by seeing the stands being named after these two cricketers.

Harbhajan and Yuvraj

The PCA is also keen to name more stands after inspiring cricketers from Punjab. This step might bring in more fans to the stadium and is good for the game, especially in the post-pandemic era.

Harbhajan has represented India in 103 Test, 236 ODI and 28 T20I and picked up a total of 711 international wickets. He is also the first Indian to take a hat-trick in a Test match. Yuvraj has played in 40 Test, 304 ODI and 58 T20I matches for India and has scored 11,778 runs and picked 148 wickets in international cricket. He was also the Player of the Tournament in India’s historic 2011 World Cup victory.

Mohali’s cricket stadium was built in 1994 and is named after former PCA and BCCI official IS Bindra. The venue so far has hosted 14 Test matches, 25 ODIs and five T20 games. It is set to host the first T20I between India and Australia on September 20.

India will play a three-match T20I series against Australia. It will be crucial before the T20 World Cup which is being held in Australia in October.
