Ranji Trophy: Hanuma Vihari brings back memories from SCG, bats left-handed with broken wrist as netizens call him ‘warrior’

Vihari was batting at 16 off 27 when a bouncer from Avesh Khan hit his left wrist. He left the ground of the scans and found a fracture in the joint.

New Delhi: Hanuma Vihari did something similar to what he did at the SCG in 2021 as he batted in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals with a broken wrist. The Andhra captain, in the game against Madhya Pradesh, broke his left wrist off a ball by Avesh Khan and had to leave the ground for scans. The batter returned the next day and batted left-handed to put up another example of grit.

Vihari was batting at 16 off 27 when a bouncer from Avesh Khan hit his left wrist. He left the ground of the scans and found a fracture in the joint. The next day, he came back and batted left-handed to protect his left arm from the ball. Playing almost single-handedly, he even hit a boundary to Avesh Khan. He added another 11 off 19 deliveries before getting out lbw to Saransh Jain.

The cricket fraternity and fans are flooding Twitter with an appreciation for the batter.

Hanuma Vihari, at the SCG in the third Test of India’s tour of Australia, batted with a torn hamstring to save the game for his side. He faced 161 deliveries, along with Ravichandran Ashiwn on the other end to take the Test to a draw.

In the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals, Andhra Pradesh batting first, put up a total of 379. Wicketkeeper-batter Ricky Bhui scored an important 149(250) while Karan Shinde hit 110(264). Anubhav Agrawal picked four wickets and was clinical to stop Andhra Pradesh once they crossed the 300-run mark.
