Rinku Singh, the new Indian finisher in town; netizens react to southpaw’s Dhoni-style finish

The young cricketer from Uttar Pradesh is filling the void left behind by India’s great.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is getting some much-needed redemption against the Australian team, who defeated them in the ICC World Cup 2023, finals earlier, this month.

Indian team with the help of their explosive batting prowess have managed to outclass the Aussies in both the T20Is, played so far in the 5-match series.

India registered a narrow 2 wickets win in the first match, and a huge 44 runs victory in the second, and despite the magnitude of the match being different in both matches, there was one name common in both the match, i.e., Rinku Singh.

The Uttar Pradesh-based cricketer was the one who held their nerve in the final moments of the first T20I where he took India home in a last-ball thriller and scored an impressive 22 not out in 14 balls.


Rinku continuing his form from the first T20i, took on the Aussie bowlers in his crosshair once again in the second T20i, where he played yet another impressive short but impactful innings of 31 not-out in just 9 delivers, which includes his 25 runs 19th over against Sean Abbott.

The new finisher

Rinku Singh is showing the shades of former Indian great MS Dhoni, with his cameos, as just like MS, he is keeping his calm during the final overs, and backs his big-hitting abilities to maximize the last 2 or 3 overs of the innings in his favour.

The similarities are so visible that the Indian skipper for the series, Surya Kumar Yadav, during the post-match conference, while praising Rinku said, “When I saw Rinku come in to bat in the last game, the composure he showed was brilliant. It reminded me of someone. Everyone knows the answer.”

Rise to fame

Rinku Singh who has been part of KKR since 2018, had to wait some time to prove his quality as in his first three seasons with the team, he only gets to play 10 matches, where he was only able to notch up 77 runs.

He bought back again in the 2021 auctions and he got to play 7 matches and ended up scoring 174 runs in the season.

The stats were not great but was enough to get him more match time in the following season.

After, a few injury scares, KKR gave Rinku the opportunity to prove himself once again, and this time he grabbed it with both hands.

Rinku sought out to fame when he struck 5 sixes in 5 balls against Gujrat Titans when his team required 28 to win from the 5 balls.

Rinku used that inning as his morale booster and ended up scoring 474 runs in the season, which saw him fulfilling his biggest team of representing his country at the international level come true.
