Rohit Sharma joins in Virat in the retirement process as he bids adieu to T20Is!

After Virat Kohli, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has also announced his retirement from the T20 format post the ICC World Cup 2024.

New Delhi: After Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma has also announced his retirement from the T20 format. Sharma, who has captained India for nearly 2 years, has seen dark days on the trot after India lost finals one after another. First India lost the WTC to Australia, followed by a devastating loss in the ICC Mens ODI World Cup.

However, the hitman redeemed himself by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and ending the 11-year trophy drought. Rohit announced his retirement from the T20 format in the official post-match conference. Furthermore, Sharma even stepped down from the captaincy role. Rohit’s performance in the knockout games in the T20 World Cup 2024 has especially been standout. The 42-ball 92-run knock of Rohit was a pivotal point in Sharma’s career as he rescued his team to reach the semis.

In the semis also Rohit’s free-flowing shots against England persisted as he registered yet another half-century. Interestingly, Sharma retired from the shortest format after becoming the highest run scorer. Rohit scored a whopping 4231 runs in 159 matches thereby overtaking his countryman Virat Kohli recently. Sharma’s T20 journey began 17 years ago when he lifted the trophy as a player under the guidance of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“No better time to say goodbye…”: Rohit Sharma

“This was my last game as well. No better time to say goodbye. I wanted this (trophy) badly. It’s very hard to put in words” With these words a jubilant Rohit Sharma bid his farewell from the shortest format of the game. Amidst all the frenzied celebrations that have gripped the nation, Sharma did the work of the orchestrator to take his team beyond the final hurdle.

But that is Rohit Sharma for you, a calm and composed cricketer who likes to hit boundaries for fun. The win was a testament to his unwavering determination, composure, patience and above all his leadership skills. As Rohit leaves on a high note, the baton falls to the next generation to take the team forward.
