Sakibul Gani: Bihar triple ton boy who scripted history on debut, ‘God of cricket’ greets him

The 22-year old cricketer made his List A debut for Bihar in 2019 and featured in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in November 2021

New Delhi: Bihar’s Sakibul Gani scripted history by hitting three century in first class cricket on Friday. What made this special that he achieved this amazing feat in his debut match against Mizoram in Ranji Trophy match.

Gani slammed a total of 341 runs in 405 balls, which included 56 fours and 2 sixes. With this feat, he has become the only player to have scored 3 tons in the Ranji tournament.
Apart from his exceptionally brilliant knock, Gani also put a gargantuan partnership with fellow cricketer Babul Kumar for the fourth wicket.

The duo put a colossal total of more than 600 runs on the scoreboard, making it the 3rd highest run for 4th wicket in Ranji Trophy. Gani scored 341 runs while Babul Kumar hit double century and stayed on pitch with 229 not out.

The record of highest runs was earlier held by Madhya Pradesh’s Ajay Rothera, who scored 267 runs in December 2018. Rohera had scored an unbeaten knock of 267 against Hyderabad in the 2019/19 season of the Ranji Trophy.

Gani’s astounding knock of three centuries has left the cricketing world excited over the discovery of ‘jewel’ while fans are also overjoyed.

Sachin Tendulkar, the God of Cricket was also compelled to express his admiration over his excellent batting skills.

“Congratulations for a solid performance in the debut Ranji Trophy match,” tweeted Tendulkar.

Sakibul Gani is a right-hand batsman and also bowls at a medium pace. The 22-year old cricketer made his List A debut for Bihar in 2019 and featured in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in November 2021. He also made his maiden T20 appearance in 2021.

Gani has had his share of troubles & challenges and the journey to the cricketing world was not easy. His mother had to mortgage her jewellery so that son could follow his dreams and create a name for himself. And, the young boy has indeed done it.
