Six Indians in ICC T20 World Cup ‘Team Of The Tournament’, Virat Kohli not included

New Delhi: The International Council of Cricket (ICC) announced the ‘Team Of The Tournament’ after the T20 World Cup 2024 commencement, with a nail-biting Final between India and South Africa.

On Saturday, 29th June, India went head-on against South Africa for the T20 World Cup 2024 final at the Kingston Oval, Barbados. India won the World Cup in a nail-biting thriller. India won an ICC trophy and ended the drought of 13 long years. In contrast, the Proteas fell short by just 7 runs.

Virat Kohli was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 79(59). Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah was decorated with the Man of the Tournament for his exceptional bowling.

ICC announced the ‘Team Of The Tournament’ after the conclusion of the World Cup, on Saturday. A list of total 12 players have been out, including the 12th man. Six Indian players have been included in the playing 11, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh. However, Virat Kohli is not part of the team.

The team selection panel included commentators Ian Bishop, Harsha Bhogle, Kass Naidoo, and ICC General Manager Wasim Khan.

At no.1 Rohit Sharma is also the captain of the side, additionally, he is the 2nd highest run-getter in the tournament 257. Then at no. 2 its Afghanistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Gurbaz is the highest run scorer of the tournament 281 runs. The West Indian explosive batter Nichlos Pooran, takes the 3rd spot.

Next in the line-up, Suryakumar Yadav has been included at No. 4. While Marcus Stoinis is the only Australian player who made it into the list. At no. 6 and 7 Indian all-rounders have occupied the spots Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel. The two all-rounders consistently performed for their team both with bat and ball. Providing better stability and flexibility in the middle.

Rashid Khan,  Afghanistan’s skipper and spin wizard has occupied the 8th spot. The skipper has clinched 14 wickets in the tournament playing a pivotal role for his team. Moreover, the Man of the Tournament, Jasprit Bumrah is at No. 9. Bumrah has taken 15 wickets with an average of 8.26 and an economy rate of just 4.17.

India’s Arshdeep Singh and Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi are included in 10th and 11th spots. Both pacers are the joint highest wicket-takers in the tournament, with 17 wickets. Meanwhile, South African speedster Anrich Nortje, has been named the 12th man.
