Sri Lanka sees a massive jump in the World Test Championship Standings after New Zealand win

Top 2 teams of the World Test Championship standings will be guaranteed a spot in the World Test Championship Final scheduled to take place in 2025.

New Delhi: Sri Lanka a massive jump in the World Test Championship standings after defeating the Kiwis in the first Test of the ongoing Sri Lanka vs New Zealand series. The Lankans defeated the Black Caps by 63 runs courtesy of a persistent spin attack and some fine all-round batting display.

In the process, the Lankans dethroned New Zealand to climb to third place overtaking New Zealand. While the possibility of an India vs Australia clash is on the cards once again, new contenders are emerging continuously to make their mark in red ball cricket.

With this aim and vision in mind, teams are busy focussing increasingly on red-ball cricket to secure a chance to play in the final of the WTC.

Apart from Sri Lanka, India also saw a massive improvement in their rankings as they cement their position at the top of the WTC standings. Eventually, the gulf between India and Australia increased after their recent triumph over Bangladesh.

How can Sri Lanka qualify for the WTC Final 2025?

Sri Lanka can dream of playing in the WTC Finals if they qualify for the top 2 of the WTC points table. According to the rules, the top 2 teams of the WTC Test standings will play in the WTC Final 2025 which is scheduled to take place in the Lords Cricket Ground in London.

If Sri Lanka’s dreams do turn into a reality, then the Islanders may see themselves fancy an outside chance to play against India in the finals.
