New Delhi: Chess siblings- Rameshbabu and Vaishali Praggnanandhaa are all set to rock the City of Joy with their fearless moves at the 2024 Tata Steel Chess competition. The event boasts a prize pot of USD 41,500, equal for men and women. It maintains its tradition with Open and Women’s categories.
The Tata Steel Chess India 2024 tournament will feature two formats – rapid and blitz. Both the formats will have an open and women category. Interestingly, Norwegian Grand Master Magnus Carlsen is setting foot in Kolkata for the tournament after a five-year hiatus.
The boy who won everyone’s heart at the opening ceremony of the Tata Steel Chess India 2024 was 3-year-old Anish Sarkar. He is the youngest FIDE Rated player ever in the history of the game, achieving an Elo of 1555 at the age of 3 years and 8 months!

Last year’s champions were Maxime Vachier Lagrave for the Rapid, and Alexander Grishchuk for the Blitz in the men’s category. In the women’s category, Divya Deshmukh and Ju Wenjun took the titles in the women’s Rapid and Blitz respectively.
Tata Steel Chess 2024: Venue and Date
The Tata Steel Chess 2024 is set to take place at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Alipore, Kolkata. The tournament will start on November 13 and conclude on November 17 2024.
