New Delhi: Legendary former Indian Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar got a bit too excited while praising Kohli for his splendid knock against New Zealand in the semi-final of ICC World Cup 2023.

While doing Commentary during the India vs New Zealand clash at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Gavaskar remembered the way Virat dominated Sri Lanka’s finest bowler Lasith Malinga in the 2012 Tri-series and said something that made him go viral on social media.

In the video, Gavaskar, who is seen sitting in a commentary box, recalls Kohli’ iconic Hobart heroics against Sri Lanka and says “Jis Tarah Malinga to Pela tha unhone.”(the way Kohli bashed Lasith Malinga).

Netizens React on Gavasker’s Slip of Tongue

Gavaskar’s slip of the tongue and his words for Lasith Malinga are now making the netizens chuckle and they are taking to the comment section to give their epic reactions on the same. An individual wrote, “Good cricketer doesn’t mean good stavik human.. they can be as cheap as any other ppl with their words…legends.”

Another one commented, “I thought I heard it wrong yesterday but I was right.” A third one wrote, ” I think he said khela tha.”

For the unversed, Virat Kohli took Lasith Malinga on remand and played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 133 runs against Sri Lanka in the Commonwealth Bank’s tri-series that was played between Sri Lanka, India and Australia.

In his historical innings, Kohli smashed Malinga from right, left, and center and even went on to score 24 runs in his single over. His knock helped India chase down the challenging total of of 321 runs in just a matter of 36.4 over and win the rain-affected encounter with style.

Meanwhile, Virat Kholi continued his dream run in World Cup 2023 and script history by becoming the first batsman to score 50 ODI centuries. He claimed the record by dethroning his idol Sachin Tendulkar, who has smashed 49 ODI centuries in 471 innings, by hitting his 50th ODI ton during India’s semi-final game against New Zealand.

Kohli’s brilliant century combined with exceptional efforts by his teammates helped India defeat New Zealand by 70 runs to get into the finals of the ICC World Cup 2023.

They will now lock horns with the winning team of the second semi-final (Australia/South Africa) in Ahmadabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on 19th November.
