Washington Sundar joins the India squad ahead of the 2nd and 3rd Tests against New Zealand

New Delhi: In a recent fresh move from the BCCI, right-arm all-rounder Washington Sundar is set to join the Indian team for the second and third tests against New Zealand. The reason for Sundar’s inclusion is yet not clear from the board. Naturally, the question remains where will Sundar fit in the playing XI for India?

The Men in Blue already have Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep in the spin department. Therefore, Sundar might replace one of the three bowlers should Gambhir and the backroom staff consider tinkering with the playing XI.

In a recent statement by Jay Shah, the BCCI released the statement that:

The Men’s Selection Committee on Sunday added Mr. Washington Sundar to India’s squad for the remainder of the IDFC First Bank Test series against New Zealand. Mr Washington Sundar will link-up with the squad in Pune ahead of the second Test.

Meanwhile, the Right-arm off-spinner is enjoying a fantastic domestic season. Playing for Tamil Nadu, Sundar so far has scored 152 runs and taken 2 wickets in his outing for the side. Furthermore, the 25-year-old participated in the Bangladesh T20I series earlier in the month. Sundar was also part of the home series against England in Ahmedabad in 2021 where he scored 265 runs and took 6 wickets.
