‘Wasn’t able to sleep…’: Sarfaraz Khan opens up after not being picked for India’s Test side

New Delhi: Sarfaraz Khan not being selected for the Indian team for the upcoming Test matches has been a hot topic for the cricket world in the past few days. The batter broke the silence on being excluded after a great run in Ranji Trophy and talked about trying, again and again, to get into the team. He also talked about his mental health after the news.

After Suryakumar Yadav was picked ahead of him for the New Zealand tour of India and the first two Tests against Australia, Sarfaraz opened up and said that he has heard people talking about his selection wherever he goes and even on social media. While talking to Indian Express, the cricketer said that he was not able to sleep after the day the team was announced.

Sarfaraz further said that he had a chat with his father and things went normally for him.  He added that he will never give up the practice, and does not want to go into depression.

Talking about his mental health, the batter said that he was ‘down completely’ after scoring runs and not getting selected for the national side. He added that his father said that a batter’s job is to score runs and he feels he will play for India one day.

He stated that he will not be dejected by such rejection for a long time as he has seen more downs than ups in his life. While he went on to say that he feels that he can play also white-ball cricket for India.

Sarfaraz Khan has scored 3380 runs in his first-class career while he has 2289 runs in 22 innings at an average of 134.64 since 2019. He has 12 centuries in first-class cricket, including a triple ton. He also scored a century in the Irani Cup for the Rest of India. However, in two games for India A against Bangladesh A, he could only manage a 21 and a duck.
