New Delhi: Social media went berserk after the rumours of a marriage between Sania Mirza and Mohammed Shami went viral. Sania has been one of the strong pillars of Indian tennis while Mohammed Shami has become the mainstay of the Indian pace lineup in both white ball and red ball.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami had been in phenomenal form last year, helping his team reach the ODI World Cup Finals. However, due to an unfortunate injury, Shami was injured this year, which ruled him out of IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024.

However, Sania’s father Imran has dismissed all the wild speculations that have been going around on social media. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Imran, Sania’s father remarked “That’s all rubbish! She has not even met him.” Imran’s comments have cleared the air of the controversy.

The main controversy started after a doctored photo of both Shami and Sania was circulated on social media. In the image, Sania was wearing a wedding dress which solidified the wild guesses of the netizens. Originally, the photo was from Sania’s marriage with Shoaib back in 2010. However, in place of Shoaib, Shami’s photo was placed which triggered the controversy.

Sania was shortly divorced from his cricketer husband Shoaib Malik earlier this year while Shami also separated from his partner Hasin Jahan. Mirza recently retired from her professional tennis career and was last seen as a pundit on the sets of the iconic Roland Garros.
The six-time grand slam winner was recently in the news after her divorce from Malik. To atone for her ‘wrongdoings’ and her sins, Mirza went on a spiritual journey to Hajj. Sania posted on her social media, “As I prepare for this transformative experience, I humbly ask for your forgiveness for any wrongdoings and shortcomings….”
