Watch Gerhard Erasmus’s reply to Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘Naam Yaad Rakhna’ tweet after Namibia stuns in T20 World Cup

During the after-match ceremony, Erasmus lauded the efforts made by his fellow teammates, saying they have a bigger target in mind

New Delhi: Namibia stunned the world when they defeated the experienced squad and Asian champions Sri Lanka in the initial game of round 1 match in ongoing T20 World Cup at the Kardinia Park in Geelong.

The Gerhard Erasmus-led side bundled out Sri Lanka for just 108 runs in 19 overs. Bernard Scholtz, Ben Shikongo, David Wiese, and Jan Frylinck claimed two wickets each for Namibia while JJ Smit took one.

Soon after the newbie delivered a thrilling win, legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar lauded the squad via his Twitter handle.

Tendulkar took to Twitter and wrote – “Namibia has told the cricketing world today… ‘Nam’ yaad rakhna!”

Responding to Tendulkar’s message on the microblogging site, Namibian skipper Erasmus replied in just three words, “Nam Yaad Rakhna”.

During the after-match ceremony, Erasmus lauded the efforts made by his fellow teammates, saying they have a bigger target in mind.

“Incredible journey, last year was a special experience for us. We’ve started with a great win, but lot of work to do throughout this tournament still. It’s been a historic day for us. The opening day has been quite special but we want to kick on from here and qualify for the Super 12 stage”, he said.

“We understand the bigger picture as well. Credit goes to Pierre (de Bruyn) the way he has installed coaching to this team, one that’s a winning culture and one that sticks together. With the limited resources, I don’t think there’s anyone else that could run such a tight ship”, he was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.
