New Delhi: For a generation that grew up watching the likes of Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar, Munaf Patel, Akhtar and Bret Lee; Jimmy Anderson stands out to be the epitome of hard work and longevity. A man who has lived through the highs and lows of English cricket, people often fail to reckon that being a fast bowler and taking 703 wickets is something extraordinary.
Jimmy's family and the whole of Lord's rise to applaud a true legend of the game 🥰

Former England captain Nasser Hussain under whom Jimmy made his debut more than 21 years ago remarked, “You were there at our greatest and there at our lowest.” And yet to a generation amidst the rambling of social media, YouTube and digital media, Jimmy resembles that old-school English county cricketer. When looked at hindsight, Jimmy’s career of 188 test matches and 194 ODIs will always be fresh amongst the Englishmen who have come to love and admire this fine English cricketer.

The Guard of Honour gone wrong
James Anderson who is playing his last test against West Indies encountered a rather bizarre situation when he walked out in the middle. It is a convention that whoever walks out for the final test in his/her career, the fielding side usually greets that cricketer with a guard of honour as a mark of respect. However, when Anderson came out to bat, the West Indian cricketers were celebrating with jubilation courtesy of an extraordinary runout from Mikyle Louis to dismiss Shoaib Bashir.

As a result of this brilliance in the field, most of the cricketers remained busy and forgot to give the guard of honour to Anderson. The only cricketer who was out there to welcome Anderson was all-rounder Jason Holder as Anderson came out of the pavilion.

To remove any intentional bad blood on the part of the Windies, fast bowler Jayden Seals came out in the middle and told AFP, “We spoke about it before he came out to bat, that we were going to give him a guard of honour.”
