Watch: Rashid Khan adds a little Afghan touch to the “Helicopter shot”

Rashid Khan added an Afghan touch to the iconic “Helicopter shot” in the eliminator match of Major League Cricket between Mumbai Indians New York and Texas Super Kings.

New Delhi: Afghanistan’s number one spinner and the current captain of the T20I, Rashid Khan added his Afghan touch to the iconic “helicopter shot” in the night sky of Dallas.

This was not the first time that Rashid successfully executed the “helicopter shot” which was made popular by former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, this time the Afghanistani cricketer hit a flat bat shot off the ball of pacer Aaron Hardie who pitched the ball just short of the good-length area.

Batting first, Rashid hit a blistering half-century for the Mumbai Indians New Yorkers (MINY) rescued from a tough situation. However, it turned out to be too little too late to save the innings.

Texas Super Kings (TSK) win by 9 Wickets!

The MINY were on the backfoot right from the start as TSK won the innings and chose to bowl first. On a juicy batting surface, the MINY innings crumbled down like a house of cards. Apart from Monank Patel, Shayan Jahangir and Rashid Khan, none of the batsmen were able to make any significant contribution to the scoreboard. In the end, MINY ended with 163 on board.

Chasing a below-par score, the Super Kings did not waste time and started the proceedings. Openers Devon Conway and captain Faf du Plessis piled on the misery of the New Yorkers. Du Plessis who hit a blistering 72 with a strike rate of 153.19 eventually fell to a delivery of Nosthush Kenjige. Aaron Hardie replaced Faf in the middle and saw his side through.

With this, the journey of Mumbai Indians New York came to an end in the MLC 2024.
