Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup: Parshavi Chopra, Shweta Sehrawat power India into the finals

New Zealand, which did not lose a game in the tournament, could only score 107 as Shweta Sehrawat led the easy chase.

New Delhi: India registered yet another comfortable victory to reach the finals of the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup. New Zealand, which did not lose a game in the tournament, could only score 107 as Shweta Sehrawat led the easy chase. India’s star leggie Parshavi Chopra got crucial breakthroughs and picked three wickets to restrict New Zealand to an underwhelming total.

Shweta, the find of the tournament for India and the leading run-scorer in the World Cup, scored a fifty while Soumya Tiwari anchored the 108-run chase. Shweta Sehrawat scored 61* off 45 and hit the winning runs to lead India into the finals.

India started well with two early wickets to lead New Zealand to 5/2. Mannat Kashyap dismissed Anna Browing after Soumya Tiwari took a stunning low catch in the first slip, while Titas Sadhu dismissed Emma McLeod.

Georgia Primmer and Isabella Gaze showed their experience to build a 37-run counter-attacking partnership. The partnership was soon broken by Shafali Verma’s trump card Parshavi Chopra who beat and trapped Gaze lbw for 26 off 22. She went on to dismiss captain Izzy Sharp and Emma Irwin to play an impact role in the win. Shafali and Archana Devi managed one wicket each while the runouts of Paige Loggenberg and Kayley Knight hurt the momentum of the inning.

Indian openers started well before Shafali was dismissed for 10(9) by Browning. The Kiwi attack was not enough to limit in-form Sehrawat from hitting 10 boundaries while chasing the total.

India will now face the winner of the game between Australia and England in the finals on January 29.
