Women’s U19 T20 World Cup: Shafali-Shweta deliver firecrackers to beat UAE by 122 runs

New Delhi: Indian batters posted a massive score of 219 for UAE to chase and recorded a 122-run win in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. Powerful strikes converted into big scores by Shafali Verma, Shweta Sehrawat and Richa Ghosh helped the women in blue cross the 200-run mark. While captain Theertha Satish started the inning well for UAE, the rest lacked the spark to chase.

Shafali Verma and Shweta Sehrawat started the inning with a bang. Shafali, who is known for her attacking play in the senior team is showing her class here too. The Indian captain scored a quickfire 78 in just 34 deliveries 12 fours and 4 sixes. Her inning was supported by another big inning from Shweta, who showed her consistency with 74* off 49 balls.

The player in form Richa Ghosh, who plays a finisher role in the senior team, came in at number 3. Richa missed her fifty by a run as she scored 49 off 29 balls hitting 5 fours and 2 maximums.

While chasing the massive total Satish began with four boundaries in the first four balls while Shabnam MD also picked her wicket on the fifth ball. The rest of the team lacked the intent to chase the total. Mahika Gaur, UAE’s young star all-rounder, played a run-a-ball 26 inning before getting runout. Lavanya Keny tried to build the inning, just to get out for 24(54).

Shabnam, Titas Sadhu, Mannat Kashyap and Parshavi Chopra picked a wicket each while all were economical to stop UAE on a score of 97.

India stands at the top of Group D with a game against Scotland to go. The team has practically qualified for the knockouts while the official group leaders are yet to emerge.
